Idolatry is Rampant in both Religious and Secular Life – Isaiah 44 is for Today!

Today we explore Isaiah 44 and how it applies for us today in both church and secular worlds. Please read Isaiah 44.

We think of ourselves today in the modern world as quite sophisticated people. Our science is advancing civilization at break neck speed, we are educated, wealthy, and healthy (great medical procedures and care). Idolatry? You’ve got to be kidding, this is the 21st century!

Idolatry is rampant in both the religious/church and secular world like never before. In fact, you could say the church is full of mixture and idolatry—we just aren’t recognizing it.

To truly understand this lets begin with Isaiah 46.9-10:  Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure….

When studying the Bible (Word of God) we must try very hard to allow the Bible to interpret itself even when we disagree with what it is telling us. If you cannot do that you will never really “get it.” Throughout history man has twisted and turned the word to make it say what he wants it to say.

This is why we have a lack of unity and cannot agree on the truth—we aren’t allowing God to speak His truth to us because it doesn’t fit in with what we want it to say. That is the number one reason there in a lack of unity and agreement on scripture.

Note what God is saying in the scripture above, He is declaring the end from the beginning. If you want to understand the end you must start at the beginning. Quite simple, but….

In order to understand the end from the beginning we must go back to the beginning. We try to allow the Bible to interpret itself by looking back FROM the 21st century—that is all wrong. What we really need to do is go back to the beginning and look FORWARD to the 21st century. Big difference if you want to allow the word to interpret itself and begin to understand.

Instead of interpreting things from our 21st century perspective we must go back and look at things from the perspective of those who lived at that time and knew nothing about our time. TIME, it’s always about TIME!

Forget about science and all the things we think we know. We have to study the time, thoughts, ideas, and religion of those ancient fathers in order to understand the things that are not yet done!

If you are a reader of this blog you should understand what I’m saying. We always begin with God’s time and calendar. The entire Bible is written in God’s time and God’s calendar. The time and calendar we follow in the western world is the Roman calendar of Pope Gregory from 1582. The entire western, not whole world, observes all or part of this calendar. This is NOT the Bible calendar!
God’s day begins and ends at 6 PM. The new day begins as we enter the dark of night. Twelve hours of night—6 PM ‘til 6 AM is the 12 hours of night and 6 AM ‘til 6 PM is the twelve hours of day. The Roman day begins at Midnight—a six hour difference. No big deal?

Just understanding this we can prove from the Bible that Jesus was not crucified on Good Friday as we have been taught! https://burningbush647.blogspot.com/2017/11/when-was-jesus-really-born-bible-has.html
Think about that for a moment…God is operating on a time and calendar that is much different than the one we observe. The Bible observes different feast days/holidays--and keeps time very differently from what we in the “Christian church” do. There is the Bible time and calendar and the Roman/Western time and calendar.
This is a very BIG DEAL if we desire to understand the Bible and how it relates to our current age and the end times. All of these issues are discussed and taught on the blog, please check it out.

Today we are exploring idolatry allowing the Bible to interpret itself. The entire focus of the Old Testament is on how God revealed Himself to a certain tribe of people, gave them His Law, and promised them a King or Messiah who was to come. This tribe of people became the Israelites.

The one true God, Yahweh/Elohim revealed Himself to them and gave them a set of eternal laws which they were to obey. They were to worship Him alone:

And God spoke all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Exodus 20.1-6

Read these word very carefully and allow them to interpret themselves. No graven IMAGES of anything, period! Do not even think about worshipping these things made with your own hands—worship me alone!

EVERY other nation on the planet at that time worshiped multiple gods which they had created—that is EVERY nation on the planet! We all know this from studying ancient history—the Greeks and Romans should come quickly to your mind.

God’s nation, instead of obeying Him, constantly turned to idols made with their own hands, immediately after being led out of Egypt (Ex 32) and throughout the Old Testament, until they were overcome by foreign nations, who worshipped idols. This was how God punished them for turning away.

Now apply this knowledge to the church first and then the secular world and what do you see? Here is an example:

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;  who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 Timothy 2.3-6

The rest is up to each individual to decide. The Bible is plain and clear about what idolatry is. If you’re not sure read the  links below and Isaiah 44. There are so many ways for all of us to have “idols” in our life. Some are really clear as the two links above, some are much more subtle. This all applies to NOW.
