Biblical Law (The Torah) on the Issues of the Day

Today we will take a brief look at the issues of the day in the United States and compare those issues with God’s Law as stated in the Torah and other Biblical passages.

You can connect the dots as to how these laws apply to the current state of our Union.

  1. Immigration – We are to respect the immigrant (Deut 10.19), not slander them (Ex 22.20), nor wrong them in buying or selling (Ex 22.20). We are to expect them to repay their debts (Deut 15.3) and we can lend them money at interest (Deut 23.21).
Immigrants are expected to love and support the country they are migrating to (ref: the Book of Ruth). They are to be treated as equals under the law—in other words they need to be legal entrants and obey all laws just as natural born citizens (Numbers 15.14-16; Numbers 15.29-31; Ezekiel 47.22-23).
When we begin to protect the criminal illegal and refuse to obey our laws on immigration the results are:  “The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.” Deut 28.43-44.
In Summary we are to be a nation of law and respect the law. Those who enter the country as immigrants should be coming here to support and love our country. Criminals, whether legal or illegal should be deported or jailed. When these rules are cast aside the country will begin to become lawless and the strangers will eventually have more influence than the natural born. Our immigration policies need to be fixed. In the Bible a sanctuary city was a place for a person who committed an accidental crime—this does not include crimes committed under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  2. Trade imbalances – To make sure that weights and measures are not false (Lev 19.36; Deut 25.13-14). To avoid becoming deeply indebted. If you avoid debt you will prosper (Proverbs 22.7; Deut 28.12). Be responsible for all debt (Romans 13.7) when we are reckless with finances (Deut 28.43-44) our creditors will overcome us.
In summary – Look at our trade imbalance with China—they practically own us. Look at our national debt of over $21 Trillion—almost incomprehensible! This cannot continue—it is a house of cards.

  3. Criminal Laws – A nation that is lawless will collapse into anarchy. Deuteronomy 28 is focused on the price paid when the nation disobeys the Lord God. The entire chapter deals with blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. America is becoming a lawless “in your face” nation. This does not bode well for the future.
There are several passages in the Bible that require the death penalty for serious crimes (Lev 26.25; 20.14; Deut 22.24). We can debate the issue, but the death penalty was permitted in the Bible. There are a few places in the Bible where the death penalty was taken, but there are only a few examples—people obey tough laws. Sadly, tough laws are an indication of a lawless society. If we had a heart towards God and His laws it would not be necessary for society to enforce such laws.
In summary – The first five books of the Bible are called the Torah. These books give us the Ten Commandments and explain how they are to be enforced. In Judaism there are 613 commandments or mitzvot in the Torah. http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm
Many of the 613 commands have to do with the priesthood which conducted animal sacrifices in the Old Testament and in Y’shua’s time. These laws are no longer necessary because Y’shua has become our blood sacrifice. Take the time to review the link above. The rest of the laws in the Torah are commonsense, just, and loving commands. It is good to obey these laws—it is a requirement for blessing to obey them.

  4. Transgender and Homosexuality – Sadly, this law creates much controversy. The Torah is clear on this issue. A man is a man, a woman is a woman, a marriage is between a man and a woman (Lev 18 deals with all these issues; Deut 22.5, Gen 1.26-28; 2.22-24; Matt 19.4-5).
In Summary – I have reported what the Bible says. I believe the Bible is God’s word and law. Does that make me a hater? I am not a hater and have known and been friends with homosexual individuals. I am not a judge—that is God’s business.
What I will say is that the Father created man and woman-- and that the best way for a child to be raised is by a mother and father—because God says so—and history bears it out. There are always a few exceptions to the rule. Can a gay couple raise a “straight” child? It can happen—but God desires we have a mother and father. This creates a more stable household and environment for a child.
God wants to create a family unit the way He has deemed it works best. He commands the man and woman to “multiply and replenish the earth.” A gay couple cannot do that naturally, therefore theoretically, they cannot replenish the earth and humanity would become extinct.
God has created us in his own image—male and female—God is creating a family unit after His way. We are to be His family—these are His rules. He will be the final judge as we all die once and face judgment (Hebrews 9.27). I’m not a hater. I love God and try to obey His law. There are many other reasons why God made this rule but I’ve said enough, do some Biblical research on this subject yourself.
  5. Abortion – We don’t shy away from controversial subjects. In the Bible sacrificing children to the fire for false gods is the same as abortion (Lev 20.2-5; 2 Kings 21.6; Jeremiah 32.35). Abortion is murder. The fetus is alive and is given substance from the mother while in the womb.
In Korea and some other Asian countries a child’s first birthday is celebrated 3 months after they are born. These cultures recognize that the fetus was and is a living thing. Nine months in the womb and three months after birth—one year old!
In summary – God says he knew us before He created us and put us in the womb (Jeremiah 1.5; Ps 139.13). If we allow the Bible to interpret itself, there it is! There are many other options for a woman that are much better for both the mother, and fetus than, abortion. Abortion is an abomination to God. Can there be forgiveness for abortion? Of course, if the repentance is true. God is merciful. It is better to look for a more loving way. More than 60 million fetus’ have been aborted in the USA—believe me, Yahweh is not happy with all that bloodshed. That blood has run down the pipes and under our cities. Blood is always avenged in the Bible. The life is in the blood. Respect life as Yahweh respects it.
These are several issue of great importance in America today. Based on God’s laws I can only ask you, “how do you think we are doing?” When the nation turns from the Eternal this is what He warns:
Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. And they shall be upon you for a sign and a wonder, and on your descendants forever.
“Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you.
The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you.
“They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the Lord your God has given you.” Deuteronomy 28.45-52
This is His warning. I am just the messenger. Is there still time for the nation to repent? Does the nation as a whole really care? The storm clouds are building….
