STUDY ON
DARKNESS: OLD TESTAMENT
The following is a simple word study on darkness. According to Genesis 1.1-5 darkness is the created energy of the Universe. God spoke and light came forth. Peter says we are called out of darkness into His marvelous light. God's day begins at sunset--evening and morning. Darkness is an interesting concept to meditate on. The verses below are a great place to begin.

Genesis
1:1-5 In the beginning God created
the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and
void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved
upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light:
and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good:
and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the
light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning
were the first day.
Exodus 10:21 And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine
hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even
darkness which may be felt.
Exodus 20:21 And the
people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God
was.
Deuteronomy
4:11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the
mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and
thick darkness.
Deuteronomy
5:23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the
midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near
unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
1 Samuel 2:9 He will keep
the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by

Psalm 18:28 For thou

Isaiah 58:10 And if thou
draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy

the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his
glory shall be seen upon thee.
Lamentations
3:2 He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into
light.
Ezekiel 32:8 All the
bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy

Daniel 2:22 He revealeth

Matthew
10:27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and
what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
