SIGNS AND SYMBOLS
 

In our modern age it is easy to lack an understanding of the signs and symbols that surround us in every area of our lives. We consider ourselves to be living in a very civilized and advanced time. We fail to see that we are surrounded by pagan images and symbols everywhere we go. We forget that the adversary is the spirit of the world--that presently the earth is his sphere of control. In order for us to be “overcomers” we must understand the arena in which we do battle and the enemy that stands against us.

Pagan symbols literally dominate our society but we are blissfully ignorant concerning them. Let me give you a few examples. In Washington D.C. the goddess Columbia stands atop the Capitol Building. She has her back to the Washington Monument and “surveys” her territory. The Washington Monument is the world’s largest obelisk standing in the mall. An obelisk is an ancient Egyptian symbol of power. It is also known as “Baal’s Shaft” and represents Baal’s sexual organ.

Now before you start accusing me of being paranoid step back and think about it. These all represent ancient pagan idols. These types of symbols and signs dominate our present world. The adversary is the “spirit of the air” and these are his markers.

The Bible speaks warns us not to worship these types of images: “When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it. Deut 32.29-32

“And you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and burn their wooden images with fire; you shall cut down the carved images of their gods and destroy their names from that place. You shall not worship the LORD your God with such things. “But you shall seek the place where the LORD your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His dwelling place; and there you shall go. Deut 12:3-5

When we begin to understand the symbols and signs that surround us we can begin to discern the enemy that confronts us in the spirit. The world has not changed. We are to worship God in “spirit and in truth” and to walk in the spirit. These signs and symbols are powerful images and are the enemy’s way of claiming territory. We are not called to fear but to understanding.

Have you ever been to Rockefeller Center in New York City? There at the skating rink we find Prometheus the “Light Bearer” over looking the rink. He represents Lucifer who is the “angel of light” and “bearer of knowledge” in Greek Mythology. David Rockefeller is an avowed new world order advocate. The symbols around Rockefeller Center glorify man’s quest to be as God. Once you begin to see and understand these images an understanding of the “spirit of the age” becomes clear.

Keeping the scripture from Deut 12.3-5 in mind think of these images at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. There is a semi-circle portico of pillars facing an obelisk taken from Egypt centuries ago. The obelisk stands in the center of the image of the sun. This is easily seen from aerial views of the square.

We have the forbidden sacred pillars, the obelisk image of “Baal’s Shaft”, and the image of the sun god all compactly in one place. Interpret this for yourself. Our enemy is the “prince of this world” and his territory is clearly marked.
