COMMUNION AND THE CORONATION OF OUR KING

Our Lord Yeshua gave us much to remember at His last supper. In a simple ceremony he took bread, gave thanks, and blessed it, and gave it unto them, saying: “This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.” Luke 22.19

In this simple remembrance ceremony he reminded us of how His physical body would be hung on the cross and broken for our sins. It is simply a most powerful remembrance ceremony. The bread does not mystically become His body—it is done in remembrance to remind us of the great price at which we have been redeemed!

Then he took the cup after supper saying: This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” Luke 22.20 I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine until that day I drink it in the Kingdom of God.” Mark 14.25

He was simply saying that this cup is His testimony, forged in blood shed for our sins and redemption. It does not mystically transform into His blood—it too is a simple blood brother covenant which He is making with us for all time. He won’t drink it again until he comes to save us—once and for all time.

Yeshua would never have us drink blood. The law forbids it: “And if any native Israelite or foreigner living among you eats or drinks blood in any form, I will turn against that person and cut him off from the community of your people, for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the LorD. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life that makes purification possible.  That is why I have said to the people of Israel, ‘You must never eat or drink blood—neither you nor the foreigners living among you.” Leviticus 17.10-12

He was telling His disciples and us that life is in the blood—it is not to drink. He was saying that He was shedding His life’s blood for our salvation. He would never violate the law—the cup is done in remembrance of all He has done for us—His creation. It does not mystically turn into His blood—it is a remembrance ceremony. Can you hear the Lord Himself speaking in Leviticus 17.10-12—it is amazing!

When we allow the WORD to interpret itself things are much simpler and easy to understand. Just as we have remembrance services for those who died in the 9/11 attack, so the last supper was a powerful testimony for us to remember all our King has accomplished. Sometimes we make things much more complicated than they need be.

The blood is likened to wine because the process of growing grapes in a vineyard and making wine out of them is a very tedious process.

The husbandman spends months nurturing the vines, watering them, and pruning them, until the harvest time comes. A watch tower is built to allow the grower to watch over the vines at night.

The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand and then taken to the crushing vat. There they are crushed. Do you see where this is going?

The grapes are crushed just, as his body was crushed, until the blood runs out of them. Those who crush the grapes become scarlet with the blood of the grapes. It is a messy process.

Look at Isaiah 63.1-4: Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

These verses are very descriptive of the process of growing, harvesting, and making wine out of grapes. Yeshua wanted His disciples and us to remember how He was crushed for us. How His body was broken. Grapes are the perfect example.

He is coming from Edom which represents the nations that rage against Him. He is coming to save us at the end of this wicked age. His garments will be stained with His precious blood. He is coming in vengeance for the wicked but in grace and mercy for His redeemed. Think of this the next time you take communion. He did it alone. For us.

Our King allowed His body to be broken and His blood spilled—if that isn’t a powerful enough ceremony what else do you need? This is not mystical as some would teach. It is real. It is sacrifice. It is to be remembered every time we take communion. We need to remember.

What is this the purpose of this King coming from Bozrah His clothes stained with blood? Micah 2.12-13 gives us the answer:

I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the Lord on the head of them.

He is coming to save all Jacob and the remnant of Israel. He is the breaker, leading the sheep out of the captivity of the sheep pen. He will come as a conquering King to save us from the wrath of the nations. He is our king and will lead us out. This will occur at His appearance on the last day. WE are not raptured out—but await His coming, the day we are resurrected, to save us. Ref: Revelation 19 and 20.

In 1727 George Fredrick Handel wrote a most stirring anthem for the coronation of the English Sovereign that has been played at every coronation service since that time. It begins with these words: “Zadok the Priest and Nathan the prophet anointed Solomon king and all the people rejoiced! Now, when you listen to this music, picture the ceremony as the coronation of King Yeshua! This is why He alone is worthy of all praise and glory!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW9Uudkx42g

Whenever I hear these hymns I think of King Yeshua when He will be crowned as King of the World in the Millennial Kingdom. Whenever I take communion I think of this hymn as the world rejoicing at His Coronation. What a remembrance it is! The king too, will rejoice in that day—rejoice over His people! https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?fr=yhs-pty-pty_maps&hsimp=yhs-pty_maps&hspart=pty&p=the+king+shall+rejoice+George+Handel#id=1&vid=7fc9df3cc67d8d597f2d6313658739e3&action=click

Think of the communion service as a remembrance not only of His past sacrifice, but of His coronation and coming glory! This is when he will drink the fruit of the vine in the Kingdom of God. It will be a time of great rejoicing!

Next year in Jerusalem!
