A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CONFLICT BETWEEN ISRAEL AND THE PALESTINIANS

When I read various news articles on the current conflict between Israel and their Palestinian neighbors I am amazed at the slanted dis-information in these accounts. The truth is very simple, but always shrouded in lies.

Jews began immigrating to Palestine in the late 1880’s when some of them began to long to return to their original land. They purchased land from Arabs in Palestine.

The Arabs thought these Jews were a little crazy for wanting to purchase this useless land. The Jews were returning to their ancient homeland seeking refuge. They were paying the Arabs for title and the Arabs never imagined how these settlers would reclaim the useless land.

Since the destruction of the Jewish Temple in 70 AD by the Romans Jews had been scattered throughout the world—always yearning to return to Jerusalem. Every Passover they would say, “Next year in Jerusalem” in hopes to one day return.

The Romans, who hated the Jews, changed the name of Judea to Palestine. This was a play on the word Philistine, the ancient enemy of the Jews. It would be called Palestine until the Jewish nation was born on May 14th 1948.

The early Jewish settlers worked the land with their toil and sweat. The land became profitable and fertile. Swamps were drained crops were planted. The Arabs who had lived and wandered in the land called Palestine never loved the land like the returning Jews.

Once the Jews began to reclaim the land the violence on both sides began. Efforts to live peacefully never could take hold—but both Jews and Arabs lived in the same land together—sometimes peacefully, but mostly it became armed conflict.

In 1947 the United Nations partitioned the land between the Arabs and the Jews. What is now the West Bank and Gaza were to be Arab and mostly what is Israel territory today was for the Jews. The Arabs rejected the plan and the Jews accepted.

The Arabs did not want Israel to exist and chose to go to war and expel the Jews. They broadcast on the radio that all Arabs should leave the area prior to the war. They were told they would get all their land plus the Jewish land after the defeat of the Jews. Six Arab nations attacked Israel on May 15th to begin what Israel calls the War of Independence.

Israel won the war. Some Palestinians returned, but most became “refugees” from the conflict. The Arab nations have been keeping the descendants of these people as refugees ever since. They have never truly offered peace to the Jews. They refuse to accept Israel’s right to exist and that is why Israel never truly negotiates peace. Money given as aid is spent on weapons rather than on the betterment of the Palestinian people.

Another fact ignored by the world is that Israel does allow freedom of religion. Israel allows Muslims to administer their holy sites and mosques themselves. The Temple Mount is under Muslim control. The Baha'i Shrine is located in Haifa.

Would Islam allow freedom of religion in Jerusalem and the Holy Land. They are systematically persecuting Christians and driving them out of Arab countries. They do not allow other religions to practice in peace in their countries. Israel is a true democracy. Islam is not.

How can you negotiate peace with those who refuse to recognize your very existence? Since the war of 1948 there have been two wars and many intifadas. The basic reason for lack of peace is that Israel’s enemies will not acknowledge their right to exist.

Hamas and the Palestinians want to wipe Israel out and keep all the land for themselves. The leadership of these organizations sacrifice their children to this dogma and refuse to negotiate in good faith. It is really that simple at its core.

There is no nation in the world that would negotiate under such terms. The world against Israel are hypocrites, demanding Israel give in and negotiate. This is why there will not be peace in the Middle East until Yeshua returns and establishes the Millennial Kingdom in the Capital of Jerusalem!
