OUTLINE OF ISRAEL AND JUDAH: THEIR DIVISION, DISPERSION, AND CAPTIVITY
These notes will assist in understanding the story of the lost tribes of Israel. If you view the January 2014 postings on this blog, which is the study of the dispersion of the lost tribes, the notes below provide scriptural verification.
How the Kingdoms of Judah and Israel became divided
2 Samuel 6.12-16, 29 – David’s Kingdom will be
everlasting. (Jesus is from David’s family).
1 Kings 3.1 – Solomon marries Pharaoh’s daughter which
begins his fall into idol worship.
1 Kings 1.14 – God tells Solomon to walk in His ways
and he will be blessed.

1 Kings 5.1 – Hiram king of Tyre helps Solomon, they
are friends.
1 Kings 7 and 8 – Solomon builds and dedicates the
temple of the Lord.
1 Kings 11.1-10 – Solomon loves many women and his
heart turns from God to his wives idols.
1 Kings 11.13 – God is going to take the Kingdom away
from Solomon.
1 Kings 11.26-40 – Jeroboam from the tribe of Ephraim
will become king over the 10 northern tribes.
1 Kings 12.6-14 Rehoboam is harsh to people and the 10
northern tribes rebel – 1 Kings 12.19
1 Kings 12.24 – The Lord tells Judah and Israel not to
fight a civil war over the split of the kingdom.
1 Kings 12.25-33 – Jeroboam is fearful the people will
continue to worship in Jerusalem and sets up golden calves in Bethel and Dan.
1 Kings 12.32 – Jeroboam changes the calendar of the
fall feasts from the 7th month to the 8th month.
1 Kings 21.25 – Ahab is the most evil king of Israel.
Kingdom of Judah has war with Israel. The Northern Kingdom of
Israel taken captive by the Assyrians 720 BC
2 Kings 16.5-6 – Civil War between Judah (the Jews)
and Israel (the 10 northern tribes).
2 Kings 17.6-13 – Israel removed from the land by
Assyria because of their worship of idols.
2 Kings 17.24 – The king of Assyria replaces the
Israelites with other people (in Samaria).
2 Kings 17.25-40 – The new people ask for a priest of
the Israelites to teach them about the “God of the Land”.
Judah’s wickedness and captivity 586 BC
2 Chronicles 30 – Good king Hezekiah destroys idols
and starts revival, humble people form scattered 10 northern tribes come and
participate in Passover celebration.
2 Kings 21 – Judah’s King Manasseh is very wicked. 1
Chronicles 33.1-9 The Judeans return to idol worship.
2 Kings 23 – Judah follows idols
2 Kings 24 - Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon wars with
Judah and takes away the temple treasures.
2 Kings 24.14 – Nebuchadnezzar carries away the young
smart princes to Babylon – this is how Daniel was taken.
2 Kings 24.17-19 – The king of Babylon places Zedekiah
as the king of Judah and tells him to obey.
2 Kings 25 – Zedekiah rebels and is taken captive by
Nebuchadnezzar. Judah falls and Jews taken away 586 BC. Also see 1 Chronicles
36.11-23…Judah taken captive for 70 years. See: Daniel 9.2 and read entire
chapter.
Remnant of Judah decide to go to Egypt against Jeremiah’s word
from the Lord. Babylon falls to Medes and Persians
Jeremiah 52.8-11 – Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
kills Zedekiah king of Judah.
Jeremiah 50 – Jeremiah prophesies the fall of Babylon
to the Medes and Persians. Israel as scattered sheep (verse 17). Judah is also
punished. Jeremiah 50.4 prophesies a future gathering of Judah and Israel in
the end times.
Jeremiah 42 – The remnant of Judah in the land ask
Jeremiah to seek the Lord on whether or not they should go to Egypt. They tell
Jeremiah they will obey his word. Jeremiah says not to go—the people disobey
and take Jeremiah with them anyway.
Jeremiah 43.6-7 – The daughters of slain king Zedekiah
and Jeremiah go along to Egypt.
Jeremiah 44 – Jeremiah tells the remnant of Judah that
they will all die in the land of Egypt and never return to Judah because they
disobeyed the Lord and went to Egypt rather than stay in the land of Judah.
This is the last we hear of Jeremiah in the scriptures.
This is not the last time we will hear of Jeremiah in history as
he will become a legend in Ireland and Scotland.
