THE RESURRECTION AND THE ASCENSION OF THE KING

1. Significance to Messiah:

A. It proved Him to be the Son of God (Rom 1.4). B. It confirmed the truth of all he said (Matt 28.6). C. It means he is the 1st fruits of the resurrection. The 1st type of resurrection is to be brought back to life and then die again later as in the gospels. The 2nd type is to immortality and incorruption (1 Cor 15.20-3). D. It was a declaration of the Father that the Messiah met all the requirements of the Mosaic Law (Phil 2.9).

2. Significance to People in General: A. It makes certain the resurrection of all men, both believers and unbelievers--but not to the same destiny (1 Cor 15.20-23). B. Guarantees judgment of all unbelievers (Act 10.40-42; 17.30-31).

3. Significance to the Old Testament Saints: A. It included the fulfillment of the O.T. promise of their salvation, the removal of sin, and the guarantee of their future resurrection (Acts 13.32-33). B. Guarantees unfilled promises.

4. The Significance to Believers: A. It proves our justification (Romans 4.24-25). B. It guarantees resurrection power for believers service (Eph 1.17-20). C. It guarantees the believer’s individual resurrection (Rom 8.11; 1 Cor 6.14; 2 Cor 4.14). D. It means the forgiveness of the believer’s sins (1 Cor 15.7). E. It designates the Messiah as the head of the Church (Eph 1.20-22). F. It means that the Messiah now has the keys of death as far as believes are concerned (Heb 2.9-18; 1 Thess 4.13-15). G. It means that there is now a sympathetic High Priest in Heaven (Heb 4.14-16).

The Ascension of the King - Mark 16.19-20, Luke 24.5-53; Acts 1.9-12

The final appearance. On Olivet between Jerusalem and Bethany:

Theological Significances of His Ascension:

1. It proved the truth of what Yeshua said--I will go to the Father (John 14.28).

2. It means Jesus is preparing a place for us (John 14.2).

3. Marks the culmination of His Exaltation (Eph 1.20-23).He is on the right hand of the Father.

4. Marks His headship over the Church (Col 1.18).

5. Means that there is a Man-God seated at the right of God the Father (Acts 2.32-35).

6. It began the high priestly ministry of Yeshua (Heb 4.14-16).

7.It marks the coming of the Holy Spirit (Eph 4.8-10).

8. It makes the Messiah a forerunner (we are to come later. Heb 6.20)

9.It marks the believer’s new position as being seated in the heavenlies (Eph 1.20-21).

10. By means of the Ascension the gifts of the Holy Spirit could be given (Eph 4.7-11).

11. It provides the manner, not the place of His return (Acts 1.9-11).

12. It means the O.T. saint’s prophecies are true (Eph 4.8-9).

THE THIRD SIGN OF JONAH
Zechariah 4.1-10 - Given in a vision. Sees 7 olive trees. Between the olive trees is a bowl. The trees empty their oil into the bowl. The bowl has 7 pipes that feed the 7 lamps of the menorah. The common symbol is olive oil = the Holy Spirit.

Zechariah is seeing Israel filled with the Holy Spirit to be a light unto the Gentiles (Ex 19)--the source of the oil is the trees.

He does not understand what the two trees represent. Verse 11-13 he is told they are the two anointed ones. Now go to Rev 11.3-13 which describe the events that occur mid-point of the tribulation. The two witnesses are limited to activities in Jerusalem for 1260 days. The 144 K in Rev 7 witness worldwide. We learn the two witnesses are the two olive trees.

After 1260 days the two witnesses are killed and the whole world celebrates. Their bodies are on the ground for 3.5 days and are then resurrected to heaven. Right after there is an earthquake that destroys 1/10 of the city, 7,000 people die, and the rest of the people are awestruck and give glory to the God of Heaven.

The resurrection and ascension of the two witnesses will lead to the salvation of Jews in Jerusalem at the mid-point of the tribulation just before they flee the city to exit the land.

That begins the process of 3.5 years later when all Israel is saved. Hosea 5.15-6.3 they return to the Lord. Isaiah 66.8 a nation is born in a day. Zech 3.9 is the healing of the iniquity of the land. Romans 11.25-27 all Israel saved.

They rejected the 1st two signs of Jonah but will accept the 3rd. Selah!
