IS THE EARTH FLAT? I DON’T THINK IT IS—BUT IN BIBLE PROPHECY DOES IT REALLY MATTER?
I’m amazed at how Flat Earth proponents take verses out of context and
twist them to support their position. I don’t even like to get into debates
about it because in the realm of prophecy it doesn’t really matter!
Exegesis is the explanation of Scriptural text based on a
careful interpretation. The word exegesis literally means “to lead out of.”
That means that the interpreter is led to his conclusions by following the
text. In other words let the Bible interpret itself.
An example would be the verse in Revelation that says the
Beast rose out of the sea. A careful examination of the Bible would indicate
the sea represents the nations. The Beast rising out of the sea would indicate
that the Beast is a government. The Word also says the number of the beast is
666, the number of a man. Therefore the Beast is a government that rises up from the
nations.
The opposite approach to Scripture is eisegesis, which is the interpretation of a passage based on a subjective, non-analytical reading. The word eisegesis literally means “to lead into,” which means the interpreter injects his own ideas into the text, making it mean whatever he wants. This is not the way to study the Word—this in my opinion is how Flat Earth proponents reach their conclusions.
Flat earth belivers proclaim that they have 200 verses which say that the earth is flat and has a dome over it. Then they challenge you to show them verses which say that the earth is a globe. They like to use Isaiah 40.22 to support their position:
It is He
who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches
out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell
in.
Our Elohim is not literally “sitting above the circle of the
earth.” He is looking down upon the Earth from high above but what he most
likely is looking at is the Mazzaroth or Constellations which proclaim and
witness to the Gospel Story. See this post: http://burningbush647.blogspot.com/2024/05/the-tribes-of-israel-in-mazzaroth.html
The “circle of the earth” is most likely the
ecliptic, which Elohim created when He stretched out the heavens as a curtain, and spread the stars out as a tabernacle for Him to dwell in. He is sitting in
the heavens, where the circle of the ecliptic displays the narrative of
redemption through the constellations.
The word for tent is
mishkan can be rendered as ‘tabernacle‘; so it’s saying
that our Creator is sitting in the tabernacle of the stars which He created. The twelve
constellations in the circle of the mazzaroth on the ecliptic circle have
proclaimed His plan of redemption, the Gospel, from the beginning as in the
post link above.
Elohim is pointing to the circle of stars, which have
declared the Gospel message from creation; which are more glorious than any
creation of man.
“Did you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been
declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the
foundations of the earth?” Isaiah 40:21
“Do you bring out the
constellations (mazzaroth) in its season? Or do you lead the Bear
with its sons.” Job 38:32
“Lift up your eyes on high and see. Who has
created these? He who is bringing out their host by number, He calls them all by
name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His
power – not one is missing.” Isaiah 40:26
“He appoints the number of the stars, He gives names to
all of them.” Psalm 147:4
Where wast thou when I laid the foudations of the earth? Declare,
if thou hast understanding. 5Who hath laid the measures
thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? 6Whereupon are the
foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; 7When the morning stars sang
together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Job 38:4-7
Obviously these
verses don’t say the earth is round or flat. They are describing the wonder of
creation and how the morning stars sang.
The stars that
Elohim named. Angels are referred to as stars. In Revelation 6.13 we see stars—Angels
falling to earth and men hid themselves. Here again we see the Bible
interpreting itself…the morning stars (Angels) sang at creation. In Revelation
we see the rebellious angels cast down to earth during the tribulation.
Here are some
verses flat earth proponents like to use:
Isaiah 44:24 “Thus saith the
LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that
maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth
abroad the earth by myself;”
Isaiah 45:12 “I have made the earth, and created man upon it:
I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I
commanded.”
Note it says the Lord stretched out the heavens not the earth. The
Mazzaroth is stretched out across the heaves or us to see. Read Psalm 19. It
describes the Sun moving through the Mazzaroth like a Bridegroom running a
race.
This is just a simple example of the fact that the Bible says very
little about the shape of the earth. However the Bible does say that Elohim has
created everything after its own kind. If the planets are round the earth is
round. Look at the shadows moving across the phases of the moon. You can see
the curvature in the shadows.
As I said, this is not a topic I have a lot of time for. It is a
fruitless argument because it doesn’t change anything about Jacob’s Trouble and
the Tribulation. I believe the Earth is round, period. There is a lot of
opinions you will find as you search the internet.
Here is a site that
discusses the subject in great length if you really want to study this topic: https://flatearthdeception.com/biblical-proofs-of-the-globe-earth/ Click the tabs in the header for articles
that explain the author’s position. I don’t necessarily agree with everything
but it is an interesting topic that many are discussing and disagreeing on
today.
